Pauline + Michal were just married on Catalina Island and shipped me and the crew over for their gorgeous three day event.  The two were married at the Avalon Community Church and the reception was at the Catalina Country Club.  On the final day the couple set off for their honeymoon on their beautiful sailboat.  More images coming soon!  Coordination was provided by the always wonderful Catherine Machado.

Teaser: Amanda + Derek | Golden Mast Wedding, Wisconsin

Some family friends hired me to travel to my home state of Wisconsin to photograph their daughter Amanda’s wedding to Derek at the Golden Mast Restaurant on the shores of Okauchee Lake, just outside Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.   It’s always nice to get back home for some Midwest hospitality……and a gigantic thunder storm!  This was one of the biggest surprises of my career when a loud crack of lighting cut the power to the entire area for 6 hours!  The original plan was an outdoor wedding (which you can see the original setup behind the bride and groom below).  Of course this was impossible for safety reasons so we moved everything inside.  Despite this incredible challenge the lack of indoor lighting created, the images turned out beautifully.  In several ways, I think this turn of events created magical photographs, especially during the reception which took place entirely by candlelight.  It was a challenging wedding for all but it was an astounding success.  The staff at the Golden Mast was particularly amazing as they performed the entire wedding, including feeding hundreds of guests without any power at all.

David’s thoughts:

Alexis + Nick had an amazing and intimate wedding at the Inn of the Seventh Ray in Topanga Canyon.  The wedding started at the Topanga Canyon Inn, a charming bed and breakfast nestled into the gorgeous hills of Topanga State Park.  The first thing that will strike you when looking through their wedding photographs is how much of Alexis’s and Nick’s character shines through.  We had a solid relationship which allowed the couple to really express themselves through intimate moments.  They also wore non-traditional clothing.  Alexis chose a wonderful Jill Stuart dress from Kitson that was cut above the knee with bright blue Pour la Victoire shoes.  After the wedding, Angela and I met Alexis and Nick at a great spot in Topanga for a day after shoot.  It was kismet that I suggested we create a picnic scene for this photoshoot when they informed me Nick had actually proposed to Alexis over a picnic!  I exclaimed to them “See, it was meant to be!”  To enhance the couple’s picnic, Angela and I found some great picnic supplies at World Market and Hors d’œuvres from Bay Cities Italian Deli in Santa Monica.
