Angela and I love to spend lazy Sunday afternoons roaming antique stores. The untold history held in the rows and rows of unclaimed items are a great inspiration for my imagination. While strolling around Wertz Brothers in Santa Monica, I came across this vintage wedding photograph and I had to purchase it. There are a lot of old photographs in antique stores but this one really stood out. The sheer opulence of the bridal party’s attire and the beautiful purple matte framing it add up to a magnificent photograph. On the very bottom left corner is the mark “Flint Studio – Waterloo, IA.” It looks like this image was photographed by Herman W. Flint who owned a photo studio in Waterloo, Iowa between 1901 and 1946. Isn’t it amazing what we can find on the internet? I even found some of his photos online that were taken in my native state of Wisconsin! Who this bridal party was and how this photograph ended up in Santa Monica, California I’ll unfortunately never know. The photographs we capture for our couples are art and history and will be viewed for generations. They are priceless for their entire family and it’s a great honor for us to capture them. But I secretly hope ninety years from now one of my photographs ends up in some obscure antique store…..to be discovered and admired by a fellow photographer of that time.
My dad recently came for a wonderful visit from Wisconsin. One of the days we headed down to Venice Beach for a nice walk along the boardwalk and then to the ocean front. The waves were huge and it was such a beautiful day. I’m very fortunate that I get to see my family often but it still doesn’t seem like enough. I really wish I could do this more often with my Dad.

Awwwww…I love this picture! Here’s a teaser still image I pulled from a wedding I filmed at the Four Seasons Biltmore in Santa Barbara, California using authentic Super 8 film. Can’t wait for the final edit to be finished! This image would actually make a wonderful framed enlargement. The Super 8 negative is as big as a pinky finger nail which is what gives it the grainy look. Can you imagine this as a 40×60 print?
Elana + Brian have an upcoming Tamaya Resort wedding in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico (between Albuquerque and Santa Fe) that Angela and I will be photographing in October. The two had a romantic getaway to Laguna Beach, California so we met them close by to photograph their engagement pictures. I know of some gorgeous wildflower fields that I thought would be the perfect fit for them and they loved it! We also stopped by the Santa Monica Pier’s Pacific Park to get a few more fun shots!

The field is beautiful. Where is that location at?Lauren + Alex celebrated their marriage with a stunning wedding celebration at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Lauren, a documentary producer, wanted an authentic Super 8mm film to capture the day. This was the very first Super 8 wedding film for us and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful couple to share the experience with. You’re about to see the most impressive dip ever performed at a wedding during their first dance. Wedding coordination provided by the talented Jonathan Reeves and his International Event Company. A very big thanks to Vidicam Productions.
